How Network Marketers Can Use Twitter For Networking With Their Prospects

Do Network Marketing Prospects Use Twitter?

Twitter is one of the newest and fastest growing of the social media networking sites. There are millions of people that use twitter and the  number of active users has increased by an estimated 900% in the past year. Network Marketers are among the many business owners that use twitter.

It is a micro-blogging platform that lets you update your status and let the world know what you are doing. People stay connected by sharing small messages that are called “tweets”.

Twitter As A Business Networking Tool.

Many network marketers and internet marketers are using twitter as they realize that it is a great networking tool. They can build up an audience of people that share a common interest. For network marketers and people who have a work from home business it could be any aspect of the industry from the product to how to market online.

What you are looking to do is to attract a very highly targeted group of people. They get to know and trust you thought conversations that they have had with you. You are then able to attract these people to your products or services on your website, blog, lead capture pages, affiliate programs or sales pages. Before you start if is vital that you have identified your target market.

Setting Up On Twitter.

Twitter is free to join. First you will need to go to http://www.twitter.com and sign up for an account. You will be asked for a user name and this will be part of your url. I recommend that you use your real name.

Why? So that people can identify you as a real person. It’s about branding yourself on the internet. You should also do this on other sites you set up as well. This will increase your internet presence and people will be able to identify with you.

The next thing is setting up your bio. This is a short description about yourself. Be yourself and be real here. If you are new remember this is a work in progress and you will improve it over time. Include a picture of yourself so that people can identity you as a real person. Finally include your website or blog. Don’t use a company or product website and these sites are not effective and often turn people off.

Getting Started

Once you have set up your account you will need to build your audience. These are called followers. The best way to start is by following people yourself. The people you should follow are people that are talking about things that relate to your business, products or services. By following people that are in some way connected with your business. Some of these people will provide great value and you be able learn from them. This knowledge you will be able to share with your other followers which will be of a great advantage to you.

A good way to find followers is to go to http://search.twitter.com and put in a key word or words. This will bring up all the twitter users related to those keywords. So if your key words were network marketing it would bring up all the people talking about network marketing. Then all you do in follow the one you like. Also look for those with big follower lists.

Many people on these big lists are quite often the ones looking for help so they are good prospects to have on your lists. The big names usually don’t have the time to personally help these people so this is where you can step in.

When you follow people most will return the follow and this is how you build up your list of followers. This also becomes viral when people find you on other people’s lists of followers and then they follow you also.

Another way of attracting followers is to have a link to your twitter site within your other websites.

Sending Tweets

Now that you have an ever growing list of followers it is time to start networking. Twitter will ask you. “What are you doing”? You are given 140 characters so you message needs to be short and to the point. To be successful  networking on twitter efforts your messages need to be transparent. You need to show what kind of person you are. Always be real, be yourself and provide value to others.

What can you provide that will help someone in there business. If you are not at this stage yet follow someone that is and learn from them until you can. When you are seen as someone that has the answers they are looking for they are more likely to contact you and want to join your business. People are looking for people that can show them how to be successful.

Never spam on your tweets. Don’t be constantly pushing your products or business. People are not interested in this they are interested in what value you can offer them. If you offer no value they will not be interested in what you have to offer. Also if twitter thinks that you are a spammer they may shut your site down.

Conversations On Twitter

To start networking with someone the best way is to reply to their tweets. To do this you start your tweet with @theirID and your message. Dialogue with people exposes you to their followers as well. If they like your message they will go check you out. And follow you. This could also lead them to one of your websites or lead capture pages or maybe them contacting you.

Value Model

To be successful with your networking efforts on twitter you need to stand out by providing value to others. This is called the “Value Model”. This can be achieved whether you are new or experienced at marketing on the internet. Everyone has information that they can share to help others. It is also a learning process the more you learn the more you can teach others and the more value you can offer. Apply the value model and you will attract more people to you.

If they see you as someone that has helped them they will want to be a part of what you are doing. You will not have to convince them to join your network marketing business because they will want to themselves.

Where To From Here

My online network marketing tip here would be to first identify your target market. It is best to be specific. The reason for this is if you narrow it down you will have less completion. Work out your niche. What is going to make you stand out from the crowd?

The next thing if you have not done already is to join twitter. Now start implementing some of the online networking strategies I have given you.

To your success
